1950’s Italian-American Dining at Mona Lisa in San Diego

Mona Lisa in San Diego is a throwback to another age. Think 1950’s Italian-American family restaurant with red everywhere and old black and white family pictures and you’ll get the atmosphere of the restaurant. My older relatives LOVED Mona Lisa Italian Foods restaurant and we all ate well.

The food was quite good. If you know Italian food in America, you’ll not find any surprises here. These are huge portions, too. Split an entree if you’re not big eaters.

I think we all loved the cheesy garlic bread appetizer with a side of tomato sauce for dipping.

Joe was a big fan of the Lasagna with meat sauce and took the leftovers back to the hotel for later.

Also the traditional Linguine Vongole (linguine pasta with clams) in garlic butter sauce was great.

Mona Lisa is located in Downtown San Diego, in the busy Little Italy area. Parking can be problematic on the street. Mona Lisa in San Diego has a parking lot. The main lot was full, but we got a parking spot at the overflow lot next door.

This restaurant has a passageway to a packed-to-the-brim alimentary (Italian-style grocer), deli and seller of all things Italian. We had fun poking around here after dinner.
