We had a delightful cream tea in Glasgow at The Willow Tea Room.
I love stumbling onto something great. As we purchased tickets to tour the architecture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh at the Glasgow School of Art, our host suggested we spend our waiting time at the Willow Tea Room on Buchanan Street, nearby.
Why? Well, Charles Rennie Mackintosh was hired by Kate Cranston to work on four Willow Tea Rooms in Glasgow between 1887 and 1917.
Here, his input was limited to wall murals at the Buchanan street location. At Sauchiehall he had a blank canvas and designed both interior and exterior for five levels, since the lot was vacant.
Our guide’s suggestion was brilliant and most appreciated, as this 2nd floor accessible aerie was open, bright, warm and inviting.
We shared a cream tea service, with a strained hot tea and scones with cream and jam. It was a lovely break.
Here are some other places to enjoy in Scotland.
Enjoyed May, 2015.
