I’m sure we’re not the only ones who wonder, “Can Duke’s La Jolla Handle Our Group?” Our boisterous extended family went to Duke’s La Jolla restaurant and had a great time.
We were at the Hawaiian-themed Duke’s La Jolla for a large family gathering to celebrate a milestone birthday.
Start off in the Bar
We love the upstairs bar with its view. We took advantage of the Happy Hour Mai Tais while we waited for our table in another part of the restaurant. I confess this may have made us more boisterous.
In spite of our craziness (we brought a trunk full of leis and props) the team there went along with our zest for life and made the night that much better.
Group Dining Outside
We were fortunate to sit outside during our meal. Do you think they wanted the loud people outside, away from other diners? There were lots of other tables outside, so I don’t think they were trying to get rid of us. We shared our joy with nearby tables and as they joined in, we made their dinners better.
When you sit outside by the water, you notice it gets cool by the water when the sun goes down in December. Some of our group put on light jackets. The heaters at Duke’s La Jolla were enough to keep me warm.
The Seafood Hot Pot & Ice Cream Cake
While all the food was good, the Seafood Hot Pot was the hit with our group. The Seafood Hot Pot is a Thai-style soup broth with lemongrass, loaded with mussels, bits of fish and shrimp. It’s huge and there was sampling all around.
Most popular, though, was the mile-high ice cream cake. It had a pile of whipped cream and fudge sauce dripping down the side. Everyone loved it.
If you’re wondering, “Can Duke’s La Jolla Handle Our Group?” They can. Bring your group to Duke’s La Jolla. It’s a great place, and good for a group.
Here are some other places to try in the San Diego area.
