Guest chef David Santos of New York City was in Toronto cooking up new takes on traditional Portuguese fare at the Drake One Fifty. It was a pre-sold 4-course prix fixe dinner.
Santos was Drake One Fifty’s 6th Guest Chef. We booked a table for four using our membership in American Express’ Front of the Line to get us in.
I consider myself lucky to have friends and loved ones who go on adventures with me, like this one. We had no idea what we’d be eating.
The four of us are passionate about food. One of us is Portuguese Canadian and would be able to guide us on any unfamiliar ingredients.
We all looked over the menu and had a tough time deciding which plates to order. So instead, we ordered one of each. It was going to be a good night.
As our table filled full of dishes, we simply piled them in the middle of the table and shared among the four of us.
Our entire conversation consisted of descriptions of the senses. We spoke of the flavours and differences in the dishes we were tasting, and our Portuguese Canadian friend told us of some of the history surrounding traditional dishes.
When we finished this amazing dinner, Chef David Santos visited our table and he discussed his keen interest in food, and the Portuguese influence on so much of the food we consume today.
We’ve also been to girls’ night out cooking classes, with chef Matthew Kennedy and celebrity chef David Adjey.
Enjoyed January, 2015.
