We had incredibly great service at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World.
Service is the Star
From the welcoming reception at the door to the very well-trained servers at our table, we adored everyone.
They made us so comfortable and our server made an effort to offer solutions to the smallest issues and queries we had.
The Food at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin in Disney Springs
Lots of love and Southern goodness is sprinkled throughout the menu. Dishes that are familiar to me from my Southern relatives, and were part of my life growing up.
Southern-style Church Lady Deviled Eggs were on our list to try, and honestly, these should be on every deviled egg lover’s list. A dot (square, really) of bacon accents the top of each half egg. Our table of four shared them as an appetizer for the table, and were happy we did once we saw the size of the platters to come.
Don’t be afraid to share dishes at Homecomin in Disney Springs, as they’re large.
I’d read ahead about Homecomin’ and warned my fellow diners. Many reviews spoke of the large servings.
The couple accompanying us each had their own entree plates (he had the Braised Short Ribs and she had the Country Fried Steak). They ended up taking leftovers back to the hotel with them. They both loved the dishes, and while they admit they have good appetites, they didn’t want to force themselves to finish it all in one sitting.
Joe and I shared the Fried Chicken dinner as our main dish. I was curious about the mix of fried chicken and doughnuts, which is offered as a 2-piece chicken dinner. We wanted a 4-piece dinner, and ordered the Art’s Famous Fried Chicken.
The server suggested the solution: I ordered a side of Doughnuts. This was plenty of food for us two (probably too much, since we were also splitting dessert). I wasn’t a big fan of the Doughnuts, as they were plain cake mini doughnuts, so Joe finished these.
The seasoning on the fried chicken was quite good. At Homecomin in Disney Springs they brine the chicken in buttermilk for a day, which may account for the moistness of the fried chicken. The plate comes with mashed potatoes and a cheddar drop biscuit. The gravy on this plate of wonderful things was a stand-out.
The Hummingbird Cake
It was the Hummingbird cake which was my favourite. If you like the flavours of pineapple and banana, this is definitely the cake for you, too. The moist cake reminds me of a carrot cake, without the carrot, with pineapple and banana.
This multi-layer tall Hummingbird cake is topped with a cream cheese frosting, which ups the “oomph” level to give it legendary status, in my book. In case that’s not enough, there is a small side of raspberry sauce and a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Joe and I were happy we shared this, although I almost wish we’d each ordered it and had taken half back to the hotel with us, just so I could have it again.
In case you want to make it yourself back at home, here’s the recipe for the Hummingbird Cake.
Moonshine and Whisky
Want to try Southern moonshine? There’s a signature Shine Cake on the menu that’s soaked in moonshine.
Mosey on up to the Shine Bar at Homecomin in Disney Springs. Or, you can order moonshine drinks at the table. They offer a flight of moonshine, or a selection of over 15 moonshine drinks.
There’s also a sizable whisky drink menu, with a flight and top shelf choices.
Disney Dining Plan and Other Discounts
Like most restaurants, Homecomin’ in Disney Springs accepts the Disney Dining Plan. Special discounts are available to Cast Members, Tables in Wonderland and First Responders/Military.
I am such a fan, I bought the t-shirt. Hey y’all.
Here are some other places to enjoy at Disney Springs and things to try at Walt Disney World.
