Come out for the Festival of South Asia on Gerrard Street in Toronto to eat Indian food, browse Indian clothing and products, and stumble on the new and different, July 13-14, 2019.
It’s lots of fun to explore the Gerrard Street India Bazaar or “Little India” neighbourhood on its own. Definitely come out to one of the food festivals, like the Festival of South Asia. It’s even easier to navigate the booths since the street is closed to traffic.
A hot Summer day, gorgeous flowers and people from all over Toronto are enjoying the festival.
Shops and restaurants spill onto the street to sell their wares.
Or you can go inside to explore shops with Indian goods.
The Indian food is fresh and delicious, and it’s a great place to sample new things. Have you ever tried goat curry? Now’s your chance!
You may find the sidewalks crowded with goods for sale. These sidewalk sales are also enticing. With the street closed to traffic, pedestrians can easily get around the sidewalks by moving through the street. Of course, you may not want to as you’ll miss the goodies.
Live music and dance performances on stage entertain the crowds.
Some smart retailers have even created photo opportunities for you and your kids (or dogs!).
The Festival of South Asia on Gerrard Street in Toronto takes place each year on a weekend in July. Admission is free.
We also took a guided food tour of Gerrard India Bazaar on a separate trip through the neighbourhood.

Oh my goodness, you sold me on the goat curry! I have to admit I’ve never been to Toronto, but I love these sorts of neighborhood festivals!
Excellent news! My husband laughs when I “convert” people who try new things. He’s a reformed meat and potatoes guy who loves Indian food (and other cuisines) now.
Please add Toronto to your list. It’s a great town with lots to do and see.
I love these festivals! This one looks super! Did you buy anything at the Miss India Fashion? 🙂 We have a Silk Road one coming up this Saturday in Vancouver.
Great pictures! You’ve convinced me!
I did buy a lovely outfit and bangles that day! Will be heading to this year’s festival in another week. So happy you have a festival like this in Vancouver. I try to plan my travels around them.
We lived in Buffalo, NY for a few years and would frequent Toronto, but we totally missed this. Indian street food, we’re there!
Hi Lori, I completely understand. This is how I feel about great Indian food, too! Sorry you missed it while you lived nearby in Buffalo. Hope you can come enjoy it again sometime. Even the neighbourhood of the Gerrard India Bazaar is a great place to explore without a festival.
I always love these events when you can experience a bit of another culture, especially if it involves Indian food!
I do, too! Will try to include more of them.
