Super Mex in Long Beach has a great location in the Belmont Shore neighbourhood. I’ve been to this location many times, most recently in the winter, when we came back 4 times in a week. Love sitting in the back patio, away from the front. It’s a different vibe.
The “chips” (whole corn tortillas, not cut into the usual triangles) are free, served to the table with a Mexican-style (not chunky) salsa with a smoky chipotle flavour.
The beer is a good price, served on tap or imports in bottles, too.
Heads up that the platters are HUGE, although probably the same size as other Mexican restaurants. I find they can easily feed two normal people or are good for taking home for another meal.
I love, love, love the pork carnitas platter and order it with hot, soft corn tortillas (you can also choose flour tortillas). Delicious, fall off the born stringy pork chunks infused with delightful flavor and sprinkled with cilantro. Beans with melted cheese and Spanish style rice are also on the plate.
Sometimes I’ll want a smaller meal and will order tacos a la carte. I typically order the pork carnitas or carne asada (steak). They come with double tortillas, include guacamole and are sprinkled with cilantro.
The service is always good at Super Mex in Long Beach. Very attentive. And the prices are extremely reasonable for the amount of food and the Belmont Shore location.
There’s metered street parking, but not everyone knows there’s a lot in back, too. Take advantage of it if street parking is tough.
Here are some other places to try in Long Beach.
Enjoyed for many years.
