On the look-out for great BBQ in Charleston? Nick’s Original Bar-B-Q is the place to go.
You know how you can see a place on the street and something just looks right about it?

Or it could also have been the chalkboard sign outside, mentioning that they were “Voted #1 by Southern Living.” We checked in with our friends from Charleston and they backed up the recommendation to try out Nick’s.

Plus, the booths along the wall were filled with diners, in spite of it being between lunch and dinner time. This was definitely a place to check out.
We ordered a platter with the brisket, pulled pork, ribs, Mac ‘n Cheese, baked beans and cheese biscuits. I think we spent the entire time oooh’ing and aah’ing over each and every one of these dishes.

We bought the cheese biscuit mix to bring home. Would that we could have brought the whole place with us.
Update: the downtown Charleston location was forced to close due to a structural problem in the building. However, other locations are available.
Try this place in Savannah, too.
