NAM’S Red Door Vietnamese Restaurant in San Pedro

At Nam’s Red Door Vietnamese restaurant you’ll find quality, freshly made Vietnamese food in a tiny little place. Eating here is like having a meal in a small home, where you can see into the kitchen as your food is made. I’ve been coming here since the 1970’s.

What Not to Order

Heads up: Nam’s Red Door Vietnamese restaurant specializes in Vietnamese food, but is not a place for Pho. They specialize in amazing Vietnamese dishes so please try something new. Don’t order it. Consumer reviews on Yelp say the Pho here is terrible. Nam’s may have added it to the menu because people complain they don’t have Pho. However, it’s not what they do.

What You Should Order at NAM’s Red Door Vietnamese Restaurant

Imperial Rolls and curries are what they do, and they do them well. I travel 3,000 miles to get back here as often as I can to have those Imperial Rolls.

If you don’t know what to order, order the Imperial Rolls, Curry Tom, Ga Xao and Mi Xao.  Choose your favourite meats and how spicy you’d like, from Mild to Hot.

What I most love about this place is that everything is fresh. They don’t even cook your meal until you’ve ordered it. It’s not like they’ve pre-cooked the stuff and it’s sitting in warmer vats waiting for customers.

Imperial Rolls are the Star on NAM’s Menu

Imperial Spring Rolls

Definitely order the Vietnamese Imperial Spring Rolls. Imperial Rolls are cigar-sized fried spring rolls. They come with cold lettuce, mint or cilantro sprigs, halved cucumber slices, and a dipping sauce with shredded carrot.

She makes the rolls fresh every day, and when they run out, they run out. Sorry. Get here when they open at 5pm if you want to be sure to get them.

Wrap the hot Imperial Roll in a leaf of the accompanying lettuce, add a slice of cucumber and some leaves of mint or cilantro/corriander. Maybe fork up a carrot shred or two from the sauce. Roll together and dip in the sauce. Enjoy!

We love the Imperial Rolls, but we only travel 30 minutes to get them!
