A Fun Musical Pub Crawl in Dublin

Who knew you could do a Musical Pub Crawl in Dublin?  What a fun idea, I thought.

While I was planning our trip to Europe, I’d been looking for different kinds of tours on Viator. My husband liked the idea.  He’s a musician and he likes pubs.  What’s not to like?  We booked it.

If you’re booking a vacation abroad, get trip insurance for visiting Ireland. I’d also recommend buying a guidebook for Ireland before you go.

Oliver St. John Gogarty’s Pub

We met up with a raucous crowd enjoying live music on the first floor in Oliver St. John Gogarty’s pub in the boisterous Temple Bar neighbourhood.  We’d just spent the evening having a great dinner at the Vintage Kitchen.  It had been hard to tear ourselves away, but we were also excited about our Musical Pub Crawl.

Our group was upstairs, checking in and grabbing a pint as we waited for our evening to start.  We did the same.

Soon enough, they gathered the group and we were hustling our way through the cobbled streets of Temple Bar on a damp evening.  Our musical pub crawl in Dublin was headed to our first stop.

The Ha’penny Bridge Inn

crowded pub listening to Irish music

We made our way to the warm and cozy Ha’penny Bridge Inn, where we settled in to our own upstairs room. Our hosts introduced themselves, their musical experience and began to teach us about traditional Irish music and storytelling. We had our own bartender which made getting our draughts easy.

The Ha'penny Bridge

While waiting for my turn to order a beer, I became distracted by the beautiful view out the bar window.  I was on my 3rd beverage of the night, so I missed some of the talk about Irish instruments and Irish music – but it was fun, nevertheless.  Our hosts were talented players.

Irish Coffee at Brannigan’s

From here we walked over the Ha’penny Bridge and through a shopping area to get to Brannigans on the north side.

I suggested some warm Irish coffees this time as we were chilled through after our walk. The best idea ever.

The Temple Bar is a great area, full of life.  We’d come back to Temple Bar to explore some more and to have a meal at The Boxty House.
