Spectacular service here at Moo Pa Thai in Long Beach. I felt welcome, although I was just a single diner on a holiday New Year’s Eve.
Moo Pa means “wild boar,” and there’s a wild boar on the chalkboard-painted wall that runs the length of the restaurant at at Moo Pa Thai in Long Beach. The owners were inspired by the story of the Thai people who were trapped in a cave, and the kids there, who belonged to the Moo Pa soccer team.
A smiling and friendly server gives me taro chips as a free appetizer while I review the menu. They are not plain taro chips, but have a light seasoning I enjoy.
I ordered the Khao Soi with chicken, medium spicy, without the crispy noodles that normally come on top. It has complex flavour and a bit of a spicy kick. I find myself eating spoonful after spoonful.
The fried spring rolls (they call them egg rolls) arrive after the Khao Soi. They are bland in comparison, but I suspect my tastebuds have been tainted by the Khao Soi’s rich flavour. I will have to try the spring rolls again, and do so before my meal.
Moo Pa Thai also offers free fried wontons for social media check-ins, which I took advantage of. The wontons I receive are large and soft, in spite of being crispy. They were good. Again, these didn’t have much flavour after I’d started in on the entree, so it’s hard to say if they were more than good.
And, because it was New Year’s Eve, they gave us all champagne to enjoy with our meals.
There was so much food, I asked for a container to take it home, and they were kind enough to pack everything up for me.
The restaurant is clean and friendly. You may be able to find parking in the back or there’s free parking on the street.
I look forward to trying more dishes at Moo Pa Thai in Long Beach.
