Marri’s Pizza in Long Beach was established in 1957. This place continues to stand for quality pizzas with generous toppings and delicious, mozzarella-topped garden salads.
Marri’s Pizza in Long Beach has always been this way and my sincere hope is that it continues this way forever.
When we were kids, we brought pens to write on the newspaper-and-magazine-covered walls. Graffiti was allowed at Marri’s Pizza in Long Beach. They also used to have a plastic cup on the table filled with thin breadsticks, and I miss these.
Marri’s has a number of tables. There are one or two step-up booths which feel a bit like a private room without being walled off from others.
About the Pizza at Marri’s
My favourite pizza here is the Pizza a la Nicola. It has mushrooms, crumbled sausage, bell peppers, and green onions. When I’m with Joe we have them put the mushrooms on my side and the bell peppers on his side of the pizza.
The hearty tomato sauce used on the pizza stands up to the sausage. Few pizza places can master this.
They crumble the sausage into small pieces and then spread sausage across the entire pizza, not place them thinly dotted about on top. Fennel seeds add flavour to the sausage that I haven’t been able to find anywhere else.
The crust is a medium thickness. Not too thin and not deep dish. They use cornmeal on the bottom of the crust to keep the pizza from sticking to the oven and I swear it adds to the overall flavour.
I also like the Marri’s Special pizza, with sausage, pepperoni and mushrooms.
If you don’t want all that meat, try out the Vegetarian Delight pizza. It has olives, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, and sliced tomatoes.
As with many pizza parlours, they offer some pre-named pizzas with specific toppings, but you can also customize your pizza with your favourite toppings, including artichoke hearts.
Marri’s brush the outside of their calzones (essentially a folded pizza, pinched closed to make a pie) with garlic butter and sprinkle them with Parmesan cheese. It comes with a side of marinara sauce. This one is the go-to order of a certain teen I know.
The Cheese-Topped Salad
They generously top the green salads with shredded mozzarella. They make the Italian dressing in-house, and fill it with spices and black pepper. Other salad dressings are also available.
Hours and Parking
They’re open Sunday to Thursday from 11am to 10pm and on Friday and Saturday from 11am to 11pm. They’ll stop seating 30 minutes before they close, so get in before that if you want a seat. You can still order for take-out during the last 30 minutes they’re open.
Free parking is available in the parking lot in front of the restaurant.
Here are some additional places to try in Long Beach.
Enjoyed for many years.
