The Lone Star Texas Grill in Pickering had a lovely renovation in 2011. The bar is cozy, with tall tables and booth seating, and the patio is more inviting.
The margarita hasn’t got much alcohol in it, but the flavour is consistent with other locations.
The salsa improved. It has good flavour (less stewed tomato taste), and the formerly gratis tortilla chips are warm and tasty.
There is now a small charge for the tortilla chips and salsa, or you can get them free when you join the company’s loyalty program.
The restaurant features a tortilla-making machine placed just outside the kitchen, so you can watch fresh tortillas being made as you enjoy your drinks and wait for your meal.
If your meal comes with tortillas, you can ask for more at no charge.
Fajitas, with your selected chicken or steak mixed with onions and peppers, are served sizzling on a platter.
They are accompanied by a stack of freshly-made flour tortillas, Spanish rice, choice of beans, and fixings (pico de gallo, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, and guacamole, if requested) for making tacos or mini-burritos.
Tip: if you order the steak fajitas, order them one level less-cooked than you normally prefer it. The steak still cooks while it’s at your table and you end up with perfectly-cooked steak.
There’s a to-go counter in front, and a couple of parking spots just for people picking up to-go orders.
Parking in the lot is free.
