Bake n Broil, as we call it, has the best comfort food in Long Beach. My family and I have been coming here for years (driving well out of our way to get here, and, in my case, planning visits when I’m in town).
Add Your Name to the Waiting List
When you arrive, add your name to the list on a small shelf near the door. There’s a waiting area in front, and some seats outside. They’ll call your name when they have a table for you.
Sunday Dinner Comfort Food in Long Beach
What they do well here are those comfort foods you might have for Sunday Dinner, like pot roast or chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. They use real roasts and not the ones with fillers. They also have burgers (including a Garden Burger) and sandwiches, soups and salads.
Portions are large, so we often share or bring half of our entrees home, so we have room for dessert.
Watch for new things on the Special board by the door. I stumbled upon Pumpkin Pancakes one morning, and I still think about them.
Reserve Your Pie in Advance
Take note, too, of the list of baked goods on the wall by the entrance. Take a glance in the cases and at the shelf that holds the pies and cakes.
Don’t miss the baked goods: from the breads and buns to the famous and must-have pie.
My mom would order the pies for pick-up before the holidays. Order ahead. They prefer if you order by 3pm the day before pick-up. Otherwise, you’re not likely to find any whole pies. The servers slice into pies as people order them in the restaurant. And even the whole pies sell out fast.
If you have a particular kind of pie in mind when you sit down to eat, ask your server to reserve a slice for you in advance. If you don’t order it quickly, the pie can be gone. The servers carry a list of that day’s baked goods and cross them off as they sell out.
Great place. It’s family-friendly, delightful comfort food in Long Beach.
