Staying at the Avalon Hotel Paris is convenient to the Gare du Nord train station, in a walk-able neighbourhood near restaurants and shops.
The Room at Avalon Hotel Paris
I stayed in a small-ish room which is similar to others I’ve stayed at in Europe. It had a comfortable bed and great shower. The toilet was in its own small closet.
There can be noise from the next door room, and some street noise which could disturb light sleepers.
I loved the ability to open the windows for fresh air (and with closed windows, little to no street noise).
The Hotel
The hotel has a great staff who spoke English. There’s a convenient computer and the printer is a plus.
The breakfast room is a lounge during the rest of the day. There are vending machines there or lots of places for food in the neighbourhood.
The front door is on a busy street, and the front desk will buzz you in. The streets surrounding the busy street are much less trafficked and worth exploring. Check Yelp for restaurant recommendations while on free wi-fi in the hotel.
Getting Around Paris from the Avalon Hotel Paris
You’ll save money staying here as this area is a bit outside the key sites and you’ll need to change metro trains to get to M1 for the big tourist draws (Louvre, etc).
The Avalon Hotel Paris is really close to the train station with access to international and local trains, metro, RER and bus lines. It’s a fabulous location for getting to/from the CDG airport in 30-45 minutes. It’s easy to take RER B to the airport (CDG or Orly).
As with any train station, exercise caution at Gare du Nord for pickpocketers. I had no trouble but am passing this on in case you should arrive here and are less experienced.
I’d stay here again but would not recommend to people who have high expectations of hotels or dislike crowded urban streets.
Here are some other places to try in Paris.
