About Tour and Table

Tour and Table helps traveling foodies – and food lovers who travel – find great places to eat, restaurants, food tours, food festivals and events. We focus on helping you find authentic and good food in the cities and towns of Canada, the United States and Europe.

When you’re planning a trip, one of the missing elements can be the really good eateries that might otherwise be missed.

There are guides for the Michelin-starred restaurants, and certainly a concierge can help you get into that trendy spot.  If you just want something comfortable, it would be a shame to opt for a familiar chain restaurant from home when you could be trying something special.

Recently, I was reminded of my own restaurant mistakes from one of my first trips. A fellow traveler spoke of how disappointed she was in the food in Paris, because many of the unplanned restaurants she’d chosen were disappointing. She’d thought that because she was in Paris, it would all be good food.

That first time I went to Rome, I was shocked at not just the high cost of the restaurants, but how I disliked the Italian pastas and entrees being served. It took very little time before I learned that not every restaurant would be amazing. In addition, a restaurant near a famous location with an English menu was a dead giveaway for an expensive, poor quality meal.

We work so hard to plan our travel, shouldn’t the restaurants we choose be really good, too?

It even took me awhile to figure this out.

Sometimes I travel solo, and other times I’m accompanied by my husband. We live in the Toronto area in Canada and are frequently in Southern California.  He counts on me to do the travel planning.  For a lifetime I’ve been a food explorer and photographer of festivals, cultures and cuisines, restaurants large and small.  I’ve lived in Southern California, Boston, New York City, and Switzerland, too.  I sought out great places to eat in these cities and whenever I traveled.

However, the thought of combining travel and food itineraries, and even planning trips around places to stop for good bite, didn’t really hit home until a road trip in 2013. You can read about that trip in Stories.

We attended an amazing food festival that trip.  I’ve learned to watch for food festivals when traveling.  Toronto offers many international food festivals, and I’d encourage you to try any of them.  Plus, with the growing popularity and availability of food tours in North America and Europe, I’ve been adding them to my plans. We’ll be sure to cover our favourite food festivals and food tours here at Tour and Table.

On our social media channels (see links below), you’ll find us writing about the things we enjoy most:  food festivals, Mexican food, Thai, Indian, sushi, slightly crisp chicken wings, dim sum, fresh green beans, pizza, warm sourdough, a good steak…  I love dark roast coffee, wines, dark chocolates, deep ruby beers and stouts, Southern-style layer cakes, fresh peach pie, Pastel de Nata Portuguese custard tarts, and ice cream.

I’m always trying something new. Poutine in Quebec City, escargot in Paris, fried rabbit in Arkansas, frozen hot chocolate in New York City.

We have a Facebook Tour and Table page where you can follow along on our adventures and comment and connect with us directly.

I’ve been providing reviews for Yelp since 2012, am an active Level 7 Google Local Guide, and created a Walt Disney World Foodie Tour page on Facebook in 2017 for people wanting Disney dining advice.

I’m a member of Wanderful, for women travelers, Girls Love Travel, TravMedia, the travel industry’s global media network, and industry association Travel Massive.

We love food tours, too.  Supporting local, small businesses is so worthwhile, and I hope we make the gems out there become more visible.

I love pointing out great places, adore culture, and if Tour and Table provides a global forum for sharing and learning from others, I hope you’ll contribute by commenting and sharing your favourites.

Now that you’re here, try the different menus at the top, or start in Food Destinations.
